Global and International Studies Major (42 cr)
A. Core Requirements (12 cr)
Select one course from the following:
Students will take a seminar relevant to their chosen concentrate, under advisement. GLS 400 courses will most often be cross-listed with seminars in participating departments and approved by the Global and International Studies Committee, although on occasion a seminar may be specific to Global and International Studies. The internship must be in the area of concentration. B. Concentrations (30 cr)
- Students will choose a concentration in Global Politics and Governance, Global Political Economy, Global Culture, or one of the Area Studies. At least fifteen credit hours of the concentration must be at the 300 or 400 level.
Global Politics and Governance Concentration (30 cr)
Consists of courses focused on the study of political and social issues between states, the history and structure of the global order, and concerns about international organization, transnational social movements, global governance, and the global commons. Courses must be taken from at least three different departments. A. Core Requirements (6 cr)
B. Elective Requirements (18 cr)
Select six courses, under advisement, from the following:
C. Cognate Requirements (6 cr)
- Intermediate level (202) competency in a foreign language
D. Recommended study abroad
Global Political Economy Concentration (30 cr)
Consists of courses focused on the world economy including the study of structures of interdependence, multinational corporations, global financial institutions, international business, as well as socio-economic issues such as poverty, development, hunger, and energy. Courses must be taken from at least three departments. A. Core Requirements (6 cr)
B. Elective Requirements (18 cr)
Select six courses, under advisement, from the following:

Global Culture Concentration (30 cr)
Consists of courses focused on the globalization of identities and culture, including global issues concerning language, race, ethnicity, nationality and religion, as well as the structures and implications of flows of ideas across the planet, including the structure of global communications, the impact of the internet, and the globalization of popular culture. Courses must be taken from at least three departments. A. Core Requirements (6 cr)

Area Studies Concentrations
Students will focus their course work on a specific region and/or country of the world under advisement from a faculty specialist in that area. Students will take their GLS 400 seminar or GLS 401 internship in a relevant area. Courses must be taken from at least three departments. African Studies (minor only)
Asian Studies Concentration (30 cr)
