HON 200 - Introduction to the Social Sciences 3 Credits
Beginning with some questions common to all the social sciences,
such as the nature of social facts, objectivity vs. neutrality, and
the criteria of science, students will explore the Western and
non-Western origins of social inquiry, the emergence of the
individual social sciences anthropology, economics, history,
political science, psychology, and sociology, and the fundamental
concepts, methods, assumptions, applications, and perspectives of
these fields. Prerequisite: 1.) advanced class standing and a previous course in
the area; or a general level of competence indicated by three
previous courses in the social sciences and/or humanities 2.)
seminars and colloquia require the permission of the instructor. When Offered: Fall
