BIO 439 - Molecular Biology


3 Credits

The structures and functions of nucleic acids and proteins, molecular mechanisms of gene expression, biotechnology, genomics, the molecular basis of some diseases, techniques and experimental approaches will be covered. The course relies on textbook readings and the analysis of primary literature (research articles, commentaries, and reviews) to understand the science and to consider the social ramifications of modern molecular biology.
Prerequisite: twelve hours of biological sciences and-CHE 332 or 360 and either BIO 309 or 315. General Unless otherwise indicated, the prerequisite for Biology/Zoology courses is BIO 120 for 300-level courses and 12 hours of biological sciences (including BIO 120) for 400-level courses. If students believe they are adequately prepared for any particular course without having the formal prerequisites, they may request a waiver of the prerequisites by the instructor.
