Language and International Trade Major (63-75 cr)


A. Core Requirements—Language (30-39 cr)


  • 30 hours in French, German or Spanish (ML 201 and above) including one course (ML 310) in business use of a foreign language and two upper-division course electives
    —OR—
  • 21 credit hours in French, German or Spanish (ML 201 and above) including one course (ML 310) in business use of a foreign language and one upper-division course elective, and 12-18 credit hours in the equivalent of college-level intermediate study of a second foreign language (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish or another language by petition), i.e., ML 201-202 or equivalent.

    Students who have not had two years of a foreign language in high school will be expected to take ML 101 and 102 before beginning their major program. All majors should complete ML 350 and 351 before proceeding to more advanced courses. (In Spanish, however, students may take any of the four survey courses: SPA 350, 351, 352 or 353.)

B. Core Requirements—Economics (15 cr)


D. Core Requirements—Internship (3 cr)


  • Three credit hours minimum in a foreign/multinational company, preferably abroad.

E. Cognate Requirements (0-3 cr)


3 credit hours of any approved General Education computer and information literacy course
- OR - passing the computer and information literacy competency exam.

F. Study Abroad


In fulfilling the core and/or elective requirements, students are required to study abroad for a minimum of six credits at the 200-level or higher.  The study abroad requirement may also be completed through an internship abroad approved by MLL faculty; the credits of such an internship may count as elective requirements in the major.
