Career and Technical Educator Preparation Department
Major Information
The Master of Science in Education degree, major in Career and Technical Education program is designed with flexibility to permit each student to pursue an individualized career concentration in Vocational Education. The graduate program offers opportunities for teachers to earn professional New York State teacher certification in several occupational subject areas.
(Only students seeking professional certification are eligible.)

Degree Candidacy
Candidates accepted into the MSED program within the Career & Technical Educator Preparation Department must apply for Degree Candidacy after completing 12-18 credits of the program. Any coursework taken in excess of 18 credits without candidacy is liable to forfeiture. A grade index of 3.00 or better is required to qualify for degree candidacy status. Submit the candidacy application to the Graduate Studies Office, 606 Culkin Hall; the application and a current transcript will be forwarded to the Career & Technical Educator Preparation Department for review. Candidates will receive a follow-up letter advising them of their status and remaining requirements to be met.
Graduate Comprehensive Exam
Prior to the completion of the MSEd degree, candidates will successfully completed the Graduate Comprehensive Exam. Please not that this exam is required of all degree candidates. The exam is administered once each semester and is held on the Oswego campus, usually on a Saturday. There is no cost for the exam other than personal expenses for travel and accommodations. The exam is comprised of essay questions taken from the coursework that candidates have completed during their studies.
