Broadcasting and Mass Communication/Master of Business Administration BA/MBA Major

General Information

The Broadcasting and Mass Communication BA/MBA program is a multi-disciplinary program offered jointly by the School of Communications, Media and the Arts and the School of Business. At the conclusion of the program, the student will receive a BA in Broadcasting and Mass Communication, a minor in Business Administration, and a Master of Business Administration.

Admission

All students should apply to the MBA program in the second semester of their junior year in order to continue in the combined program. Applicants to the MBA program must submit an application and have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher and a minimum score of 500 on the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Students within the five year combined program with a cumulative GPA below 3.0 will receive an academic warning and if the student’s cumulative GPA is below 3.0 for two semesters, will be discontinued from the combined degree track and transferred into the regular BA Broadcasting and Mass Communication four year program and the Business Administration minor program.

Degree Candidacy

It is the responsibility of the student to file for degree candidacy once they have completed 12 to 18 hours of graduate study. A cumulative average of 3.0 or better is required to qualify for the awarding of degree candidacy status. The graduate director will conduct a review of the candidate’s academic performance to ensure these standards are upheld. Any hours over 18 are subject to forfeiture. Students not qualifying for candidacy in the MBA degree program will graduate with a major in Broadcasting and Mass Communication and a minor in Business Administration.

Transfer Credit

Up to six credit hours of accredited and approved graduate work may be transferred from other accredited graduate programs of study. Only grades of “B” or higher may be transferable in or out to another degree program

Additional Information

Students with weak writing or oral communication skills will be required to complete extra coursework in those fields. Students are also encouraged to participate in internships through the Experience-Based Education Office. Students must have completed all undergraduate requirements before starting their MBA program.
