Workshops include tobacco, drug/alcohol abuse and prevention; school safety and fire/arson prevention; child abduction prevention; mandated reporting of child abuse; and school violence prevention/intervention. For information: www.oswego.edu/safeschools.
E. Concentration Requirements
- A candidate must select an academic concentration from one of the following disciplines or areas: English, modern languages (French, German, or Spanish), mathematics, science, social studies, or Women’s Studies. For specific information regarding a particular academic concentration consult the concentration listing under Majors/Minors .
F. Candidate Qualifications
- Candidates admitted to one of the education majors as either a freshman or a transfer must complete the Entrance Form in the semester prior to enrollment in the first block with their advisors.
- Candidates coming from other majors must complete the Entrance Form with the advisement coordinator. An unofficial transcript will be required at the time of completion of the Entrance Form.
- Candidacy will be completed during the first block of education courses. Material will be distributed at that time. Candidates will be required to maintain a 2.50 index, provide an unofficial transcript and complete a writing sample based on the School of Education Conceptual Framework.
- Candidates must have an cumulative 2.50 index to begin the education sequence; they must maintain a cumulative 2.50 index. Candidates’ GPAs will be monitored. Candidates who have registered for education courses, but who fall below a cumulative GPA of 2.50 will be deregistered by the department from the education courses.
- Each candidate is provided two placements for student teaching through the Field Placement Office. Due to the large number of placements that must be coordinated, candidates cannot request placements. Assigned placements must be accepted by candidates or candidates will risk waiting for a reassignment in a future semester.
