Vocational Teacher Preparation Professors  

Admission (all majors)

Students with a baccalaureate degree with a major in one of the following areas may apply for graduate study in Vocational Teacher Preparation: Agriculture, Business and Marketing, Family and Consumer Sciences, Health Careers, Technical Subjects, or Trade Subjects. A student with a baccalaureate degree with a major in a non-related area and appropriate work experience in a related area is eligible to apply for graduate study in Vocational Teacher Preparation.

Prospective students must submit to the Office of Graduate Studies:

  1. A baccalaureate degree transcript from an accredited four-year college or university
  2. Two letters of reference attesting to applicant’s commitment and potential
  3. A written career goal statement and philosophy statement on the form provided by the Graduate Office.
  4. Graduate application
  5. Occupational Assessment forms if necessary. (Students without 36 cr of occupational credit must verify 4 years of work experience and complete the Occupational Competency Exam (OCE)

Applicants who do not qualify for full admission status may be recommended for conditional admission status. Students admitted with conditional admission status will be permitted to complete three courses (9 credit hours) prior to a final admission review by the department and Graduate Office.

Degree Candidacy (all majors)

It is the responsibility of the student to file for degree candidacy upon completion of 12 credit hours or during the term in which 18 credit hours will be completed. Hours over 18 are subject to forfeiture. A cumulative average of 3.0 or better is required to qualify for the awarding of degree candidacy status. This candidacy application form is available at the Graduate Studies Office and the completed form should be filed in the Graduate Office.

Additional Requirements

All Students

Prior to the conferring of the master’s degree, students must have successfully completed the departmental comprehensive examination which they are eligible to take upon completion of 21 credit hours of programmatic coursework.

In addition, students in VTP 598 must submit a completed copy of their applied research paper to the departmental office prior to graduation.

Initial Certification Students

Students pursuing initial certification as teachers of career and technical subjects must (1) verify appropriate work experience by completing the Occupational Competency Assessment Program requirements, and (2) complete two 0-credit courses or their equivalents in compliance with Part 52 and Part 80 of the Commissioners Regulations.
