The mission of the School of Business is to prepare students to be knowledgeable, skilled, ethical professionals and leaders; to produce impactful scholarly research that advances knowledge and contributes to learning and the practice of business and its related disciplines; and to serve as a resource for local, regional and global communities.
To accomplish these goals, the School offers BS degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Operations Management and Information Systems, and Risk Management and Insurance, plus a five year Public Accounting Program which leads to the BS/MBA degrees. Entrance into the combined BS/MBA program in Accounting is granted only after the third year of study. Programs are designed to provide competency in a core of basic theory, techniques, processes, and technologies common to all managerial activities. These programs are housed within two departments in the School of Business: the Department of Accounting, Finance, and Law, and the Department of Marketing and Management.
The School of Business also offers three minors. The Business Administration minor provides a professional business component to liberal arts majors. The International Business minor offers an educational opportunity to both non-business majors and business majors who would like to enhance their academic preparation for a professional career in today’s global business environment. The Arts Management minor provides an opportunity to performing and visual arts students to make themselves marketable in the business world of art.
The School of Business works closely with the International Education Office to facilitate overseas study, and with the Center for Experiential Learning to encourage internships.
Resources for these degree programs include full-time faculty with expertise in the diverse fields of management and several adjunct faculty teaching in specialized areas. Committed to outstanding teaching, the faculty are actively engaged in research and consulting. Other resources include computer facilities, a large and growing library collection in the field, modern media technology, and a well-developed internship program.
A grade below C- must be repeated in all courses credited to any major.
Laptop Computer Requirement
All students in the School of Business are required to have a laptop computer.
AACSB International Accreditation
The School of Business is accredited by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Organized in 1916, AACSB International is the premier accrediting agency for bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree programs in business. AACSB is also the professional organization for management education.
All degree programs included in the AACSB accreditation review must demonstrate continuing adherence to the AACSB accreditation standards. These standards require strict adherence to all course prerequisite requirements.
