The mission of the School of Business is to prepare capable women and men for responsible positions in business, industry, and public organizations; to provide individuals with the background necessary to purse advanced study; and to provide the larger community with opportunities for professional and organizational growth.
To accomplish these goals, the School offers BS degrees in Management Accounting, Public Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Operations Management and Information Systems, plus a five year Accounting Program which leads to the BS/MBA degrees. Programs are designed to provide competency in a core of basic theory, techniques, processes, and technologies common to all managerial activities. These programs are housed within two departments in the School of Business: the Department of Accounting, Finance, and Law, and the Department of Marketing and Management.
The School of Business also offers three minors. The Business Administration minor provides a professional business component to liberal arts majors. The International Business minor offers an educational opportunity to both non-business majors and business majors who would like to enhance their academic preparation for a professional career in today’s global business environment. The Arts Management minor provides an opportunity to performing and visual arts students to make themselves marketable in the business world of art.
The School of Business works closely with the International Education Office to facilitate overseas study, and with the Experience-Based Education Office to encourage internships.
Resources for these degree programs include full-time faculty with expertise in the diverse fields of management and several adjunct faculty teaching in specialized areas. Committed to outstanding teaching, the faculty are actively engaged in research and consulting. Other resources include computer facilities, a large and growing library collection in the field, modern media technology, and a well-developed internship program.
Because of the high interest in the School of Business programs, it should be noted that students accepted into SUNY Oswego as freshmen or transfers are not guaranteed acceptance into the School of Business. Only those applicants who have been notified that a place has been reserved for them in a Business program can be assured of accommodation. Entrance into the combined BS/MBA program in Accounting is granted only after the third year of study.
A grade below C- must be repeated in all courses credited to any major.
Laptop Computer Requirement
All students in the School of Business are required to have a laptop computer.
Pre-law
Students who want to investigate the possibilities of a career in law should contact Professor Steven Abraham of the Marketing and Management Department, during their freshman year or as soon as possible in their degree program.
AACSB International Accreditation
The School of Business is accredited by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Organized in 1916, AACSB International is the premier accrediting agency for bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree programs in business. AACSB is also the professional organization for management education.
All degree programs included in the AACSB accreditation review must demonstrate continuing adherence to the AACSB accreditation standards. These standards require strict adherence to all course prerequisite requirements.
