PHL 312 - Philosophy of Computation This course explores philosophical problems that arise about computation and about computer science: What is a computer? Do abstract things, such as algorithms, have
causal effects in the world? Can a computer understand semantics? Is it plausible that reality is a computer simulation? What kind of science is computer science?
Prerequisite: COG 166 or CSC 221 or PHL 111; or instructor permission. Equivalent Course: COG 312 When Offered: Not on a regular basis Credit: 3
