HIS 385 - Modern Japan This course surveys the culture and history of modern Japan from 1850 to present. The theme of this course is modernity and tradition/identity. The discussion will focus on how Japan insisted on its tradition in the course of seeking modernity and whether modernity undermines or strengthens the tradition.
Prerequisite: Upper division standing or instructor permission. Offered: Not on a regular basis Credit: 3
