SSE 200 - Basic Concepts in Social Studies This course is divided into two components. The first component sets out to explore the nature and meaning of social studies education and the 5 core disciplines (Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Civics (Sociology/Anthropology) that make up holistic social studies education. Students will focus on grade level appropriate understanding and integration of social studies as a phenomenon. Assignments will be guided by standards from the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) and 2014 New York Learning Standards. We will explore democratic citizenship education, inquiry skills, as well as critical thinking and problem solving.
