Program Description

The mental health counseling program is a 60-hour CACREP accredited program designed to prepare human service providers to deal with problems and general concerns of human service agency clients and employees. An option within the program permits students to meet the educational requirements for credentialing in the field of alcoholism and substance abuse counseling. Students who complete additional fieldwork and pass the State examination become eligible for Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) status.

Degree Candidacy

Candidates accepted into the Mental Health Counseling must apply for Degree Candidacy after completing 12-18 credits in the program. Any coursework taken in excess of 18 credits without candidacy is liable to forfeiture. An overall cumulative average of 3.0 or better is required to qualify for degree candidacy as well as meeting program specifications, such as successful completion of CPS 512, evidence of the Indicators of Professional Readiness, professional development and conditional acceptance requirements. Request the degree candidacy application from your advisor.
