Program Description

Our advanced Health Information Technology certificate program offers an excellent opportunity to master technological skills at the forefront of the healthcare sector’s needs for data analytics, data management, and health records by combining advanced interdisciplinary coursework from information science and health informatics. The certificate program affords experiential learning and internship opportunities to study the growing importance of digital and electronic health care in partnership with leading area health care organizations such as Upstate Medical Center, MedTech, Welch Allyn and the Veterans Health Administration. This program can be completed in the classroom or entirely online. The advanced certificate program can help students advance their career through technology or pursue a master’s program. Credits from this program may be applied to a master’s degree in biomedical and health informatics or human-computer interaction.

Additional Program Requirements


  • Foundation Requirements: The program Director will advise each student individually as to whether foundation knowledge is recommended to succeed in the program. The program can be started in Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters.
  • Certification Exams (Recommended, not required): Students are encouraged to complete certification exams in health information technology in support of their career goals.
