Career and Technical Educator Program (all majors)


A. Core Requirements (27 cr)


All CTE pre-student teaching courses require 15 to 25 hours of embedded field experience.

B. Elective Requirements (3 cr)


  • Emphasis is on courses that enhance the general education development and interests of the individual.

Agriculture Content
The Agricultural Education major is designed for full-time and part-time students. The curriculum is intended to accommodate agricultural generalists and specialists from industry with several years of appropriate agriculture experience and transfer students with Associate in Applied Science (AAS) or Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degrees in appropriate agricultural majors. At least one year of experience working in the Agricultural field is recommended. A major or equivalent in agriculture, including such coursework as animal science, plant science, horticulture, aquaculture, entomology, soil science, agricultural engineering, and similar areas of study normally offered by recognized schools of agriculture.

Business & Marketing Content
The Business and Marketing Education major provides the student with a specialization in business and marketing education, to teach business and marketing subjects. The curriculum is intended to accommodate business generalists and specialists from business and industry with several years of appropriate experience, and transfer students with Associate in Applied Science (AAS) or Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degrees in appropriate business and marketing majors. At least one year of experience working in the business/marketing field is recommended. The College admits full-time freshmen level students into the Business and Marketing Education major. 

A major or equivalent in business and marketing, including such coursework as marketing, advertising, business technology and information systems, macro-and microeconomics, money and finance, banking, management, accounting, international business, and similar areas of study normally offered by recognized schools of business. Candidates admitted into this program as freshmen take 30 credit hours of recommended courses under advisement in accounting, marketing, management, human resources management, web page design, risk management, and economics.

Family and Consumer Science Content
The Family and Consumer Sciences Education major is designed for students with a specialty in related occupations. The curriculum is intended to provide the student with the opportunity to become a certified Family and Consumer Science subject teacher. The specialty may be verified by an associates degree and related experience or by related experience and successful completion of an appropriate occupational competency exam.

A major or equivalent in family and consumer science, including coursework (3 to 6 credit hours each) in food and/or nutrition; textiles and/or design; child development, gerontology, and /or human care; parenting and/or family relationships; management and/or economics; careers, personal development, and/or work-based learning; environment and/or housing.
The Health Careers Education major is designed for full-time and part-time students. The curriculum is intended to accommodate health career specialists who have appropriate work experience and an associate degree, certificate, or diploma as required by state law in their respective health occupation specialty areas.

Trade Education Content
The Trade Education major is designed for full-time and part-time students. The curriculum is intended to accommodate trade specialists from industry with several years of appropriate industrial experience or transfer students with Associate in Applied Science (AAS) or Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degrees in appropriate trade specializations.

Technical Education Content
The Technical Education major is designed for full-time and part-time students. The curriculum will accommodate technical specialists from industry with several years of appropriate industrial experience or transfer students with Associate in Applied Science (AAS) or Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degrees in appropriate technical specializations.
