ECO 378 - Health Economics This course examines the economic forces shaping the U.S. healthcare system, focusing on rising healthcare costs, labor market challenges, and disparities in access and outcomes. Students will explore supply and demand dynamics, the impact of technological advancements, and the role of consumer choice in healthcare decision-making. The course also covers health insurance markets, including private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid, and evaluates the effects of social insurance programs on healthcare equity. Additionally, students will analyze pandemic economics, workforce shortages, and the influence of key industry players such as hospitals and the pharmaceutical sector. Comparative health system analysis, medicare and medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will provide insights into policy solutions for improving efficiency and equity in healthcare.
