ANT 380 - Archaeology Field School

This course includes a thorough introduction to the modern practice and profession of historic preservation and archaeology through a real-life excavation in a prehistoric and/or historic site. Emphasis is placed on the design of modern field research and practical experience conducting field survey, mapping, and modern excavation and artifact recovery and analysis. This course provides hands-on activities to give students direct field experience in the design and completion of an archaeological dig at a local historic site including the processing and curation of recovered materials to museum professional standards. Students will survey, excavate, analyze recovered materials, and complete interpretive narratives that are the basic requirements for professional archaeology and historic preservation.
