MUS 390 - African Music in the Americas This course introduces students to the music of West Africa, and then studies how those musical characteristics were transplanted to Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico, among others. The class also examines cultural, social and anthropological practices in West Africa, Brazil, Cuba, the Caribbean islands and the United States.
