CPS 502 - Race, Gender, and Class Issues in Counseling Catalog Year 2012-2013
This course is designed to help students to increase their knowledge about human diversity and the impact that diversity has on behavior. Issues of race, class and gender form the template through which the impact on the counseling process, practitioners, and clientele is examined. Individuals who are preparing to enter the helping professions need to understand the cultural milieu within which helping behaviors occur and the ways in which these behaviors may be affected by personal biases and needs of the professionals and those whom they serve. Dynamics of social institutions such as family, school, and religion also will be examined.
