SPE 515 - Educational Planning: Literacy for Students with Disabilities Catalog Year 2009-2010
This course will emphasize decision-making special educators need
to co-plan individual literacy programs for students with mild,
moderate or severe disabilities. It will address ways to enhance
meaningful participation in typical literacy activities in general
education classes for students with disabilities. The course will
also address knowledge and skills to design individual
instructional programs in literacy, when needed, to augment general
education opportunities. Issues such as individualized assessment,
grouping, scheduling, curriculum, materials, guided lesson plans,
methods, use of technology and assistive technology for literacy
development and instruction and specialized approaches will be
addressed.
PREREQ: Lit 311 and 314 (or equivalent), concurrent registration in Spe 514 (with field placement) and experience teaching literacy at primary childhood level (grades 1-3). OFFERED: Fall CREDIT: 3
