A Message from the President’s Office

Becoming a member of the SUNY Oswego community provides opportunities inside and outside the classroom. You are joining a university with a long history, founded 162 years ago, on a simple and powerful promise: to light the torch of learning, transform lives, and ignite new possibilities.

You are embarking on what we anticipate will be a rewarding experience illuminated by the quality of education you will receive inside our classrooms (both virtual and physical), labs and studios, and by caring and engaging faculty and staff who will help you learn and flourish as a student and member of our university community. Seek excellent connections with people who will enthusiastically support you in your goal to achieve and pursue the many learning, research, volunteer, creative activities, study abroad, and applied learning opportunities that are available to you.

Take advantage of the resources created to help you succeed and to foster your growth, personal development and to prepare you for a bright future. We encourage you to utilize services that maximize your potential. For example, you can find tutors in our Office of Learning Services, internships, co-ops, and other service-learning opportunities through our Experiential Courses and Engaged Learning (EXCEL) Office, and you can explore career opportunities and receive training and support on how to craft your resume, LinkedIN profile, and how to prepare and practice for an interview through Career Services. Around every corner, you will find offices, programs and people dedicated to making your Oswego time the best possible experience, from your first day through Commencement.

But don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and explore new interests – Join student organizations, attend events, form new friendships, start conversations with new people, pursue your passions, study abroad if possible, and take an active role in making your time with Oswego as rich and rewarding as you can.

Along the way, you will find yourself supported by SUNY Oswego’s commitment to institutional priorities of Student Success, Academic and Creative Excellence, Inclusive Community, Sustainable Institution, and Partnerships and, in the year ahead, I invite you to participate in the creation of SUNY Oswego’s next strategic plan.

We are thrilled you have chosen SUNY Oswego. We are here to help you progress to graduation, and we look forward to one day celebrating you as an alum. See you soon.

Sincerely,

Peter O. Nwosu, Ph.D.
President, SUNY Oswego
