Chemistry Honors Program

Chemistry Honors Program

Prerequisites for admission to the program include the following:

  1. A 3.20 GPA in chemistry and overall are required. Both indices must be obtained in course work at SUNY Oswego. A student is eligible for honors work after having completed CHE 212.
  2. Approval of the department chair.

Basic minimum requirements include the following:

  1. A project or independent study assignment is required which demonstrates understanding beyond that normally required in each of two courses selected, from two different areas of chemistry, such as analytical, biochemical, environmental, inorganic, organic and physical. (Department chair and instructor permission are required before honors work in any course may be undertaken.)
  2. A senior honors research project, CHE 497, for three credit hours.
  3. A 3.20 GPA in chemistry and a 3.20 GPA overall.

The requirements for graduation with honors in Chemistry are:

  1. Satisfactory completion of the program, as determined by the department chair.
  2. Approval of the Dean of the Division and the Provost
