ANT 366 - Crime and Culture

This course introduces the student to the question of antisocial behavior and the setting of particular societies and cultures. The course begins with an investigation of Judea- Christian and Euro-centric assumptions and views toward sin, antisocial and criminal behavior and questions the traditional and current models developed to implement cultural responses. The course employs ethnographic data and other models from non- Western cultures to further investigate antisocial behavior. In the latter part of the course particular problems, such as violence, racism, sexism, white-collar crime, organized crime, and crime in literature are sh1died from the cultural setting of the United States.

Prerequisite: Nine social and behavioral science hours including either ANT 111, ANT 112, or SOC 100.
