A brief sketch of traditional society followed by analysis of the rise of militarism, war, the Occupation, and Japan’s position in the 1970’s.
Prerequisite: 1.) advanced class standing and a previous course in the area; or a general level of competence indicated by three previous courses in the social sciences and/or humanities 2.) seminars and colloquia require the permission of the instructor.
