HIS 302 - Historiography: Perspectives on Historians and Histories 3 Credits
This course presents an introduction to the history, method, and
practice of writing history (historiography) from the Enlightenment
era to the present. Through textual readings, research in primary
sources, and oral presentations on aspects of historiography that
have sparked controversy, students gain familiarity with the
problems and pleasures of historical research and a new
appreciation of how our historical knowledge is created. Prerequisite: History majors only who are second semester
sophomores, juniors, and seniors. 1.) advanced class standing and a
previous course in the area; or a general level of competence
indicated by three previous courses in the social sciences and/or
humanities 2.) seminars and colloquia require the permission of the
instructor. When Offered: Fall, Spring
