The Accounting BS/MBA program was the first combined program offered by a state university college to be registered with the State of New York for candidates seeking admission to sit for the CPA examination. Students planning to become Certified Public Accountants should send for a copy of the New York State Education Department’s Certified Public Accountant Licensing Application Packet. Visit www.op.nysed.gov/cpa.htm or write to the State Education Department, Office of the Professions, Division of Professional Licensing Services, 89 Washington Avenue, Albany New York 12234-1000, for a copy of the packet. Students may also pursue four-year Bachelor of Science degrees in Public Accounting, Management Accounting, or Finance. The four-year Public Accounting program prepares students for general careers in accounting, but it is not registered for CPA licensure and, beginning in August 2009, will not be sufficient to qualify a student to sit for the CPA exam. The Management Accounting program is intended for students interested in corporate accounting and offers preparation to sit for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) examination. The Finance program is designed to prepare students for positions in financial institutions such as commercial and investment banks, mutual funds, brokerages, and insurance companies, as well as in the finance and accounting departments of manufacturing, retail, and nonprofit businesses.

The Accounting, Finance, and Law Department participates in the interdisciplinary minor in Arts Management. See ACADEMIC OPTIONS section of the catalog for information.
